So, where do I start? Friday started off well enough. It was overcast but not too bad. That was until I got into the office. It was hot beyond belief. And no, not just hot because it was hot outside. And again, not just hot because there wasn’t enough ventilation in the offices. No, it was hot because it was hot outside, not enough air flow, and they had the damn heat on in the building. Heat on in late June. That’s just evil.
Needless to say, when your working in an office that is between 85 and 92 degrees its hard to stay focused. Especially when your dealing with a Zinc Whisker contamination issue with your server room and an indefinite delay of all your projects due to it. So when it’s hot outside and you can’t keep your mind on work, lunch can’t come soon enough. So I got me a Safeway Panini sandwich and some fruit. Along the way I picked up “some” gas
so I wouldn’t have to do so in traffic on the way back home.
So the end of the day comes and I try to skip out a little early so I can meet the family at the carnival. Ironic that we were going to go to a carnival during Carnival, but my life is full of irony and contradictions lately. So disregarding this and with cotton candy and candy apples on my mind I got into the hot sun and enter my hot can and use my hot key to start it up and ……. AWWW S*&T!!! Not today, Not today. So three jumps, a shredded side terminal bolt, and monsoon later I’m at work still sweaty, dirty, and not eating cotton candy. I even bought a new battery and cables to no luck. Seems I need a specific battery cable for the car to turn over. GREAT. So after much effort I finally gave up and had my boy drive me back home. All 70 miles. I’m going to be so broke this upcoming Christmas.
But don’t think that was the end of the night. On the dive home we hit a parking lot worth of traffic. for close to an hour we are stuck inching along wondering if a gas station blew up or a 727 crashing landed in the road. Finally we get diverted into this property only to find out that it was a Carnival party. See, like how I did that foreshadowing from earlier? Perfect topper to a perfect night. So I get home close to 3 AM. 20 hours after I had left the house to start the day smelling like old sweat with hands that looked like I was punching engine blocks for four hours. Which isn’t that far from the truth. Needless to say my local mechanic is going to get a turkey and bottle of wine this Thanksgiving and Christmas.
So in closing I as you all, when your hitting the lotto, or find twenty dollars on the floor, or get the number of that great guy/girl you been wanting to talk to for a while, just say a quick thank you to me. For if it wasn’t for me hogging all of the bad luck you might not be having your good luck.

I have been thinking a lot lately about something. The pursuit of happiness. And no not the book or the movie. I mean the preconceived right that most Americans have that no matter their circumstance they not only should, but must look for that next challenge, that next thrill, that “greener pasture”. This belief and inalienable right is one of the corner stones of our society right along with “Truth, Justice, and the American Way” and Apple Pie.
While I will not play the role of communist and say this idea is “evil” and the cause of the ills of our existence, I do believe they root idea of what “happiness” is has been twisted. We are human. Part of the human condition is to always long or want for something. In most cases, something we don’t have or think we need (want). But because we live in such a quick fix society we always view fixing our condition as blowing up our current circumstance and starting completely over again. That may work with jacks, but in adult life it can be to say the least problematic.
I’ve been hooked on Planet Green the last few weeks (the relaunch of Discovery Home geared towards Green/Eco Friendly ideas). And in the middle of all the solar power and recycling, I started thinking why not the same with relationships? There are cases that are just lost causes. This much I concede. But there are also many cases that you can look at and say, “Instead of me getting that apartment with the pretty windows, why don’t I try fixing the windows in my home?”. I mean, windows are nice and exciting. Who hasn’t seen a good windows and wanted to touch and stare at them all day long. But eventually after looking at those windows sitting on a cold floor and drinking Kool-Aid out of a mayonnaise jar you realize your windows weren’t all that bad to begin with. Just saying.

Had to stop off at Wawa for some air and a couple gallons of gas. I know I sound like a broken record but what I paid for 5 gallons would have filled the tank and gotten me some bubble gum. Right now i am SANS gum. Robbery I say!!!
